Today’s reading was Acts 21 and Jeremiah 7&8
The Scripture that stuck out to me today was Jeremiah 8:13 When
I would gather them, declares the Lord, there are no grapes on the vine, nor
figs on the fig tree; even the leaves are withered, and what I gave them has
passed away from them.
Observation: When I read this if reminded my of when Jesus
cursed the fig tree in Matthew 21 “And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he
went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And he said to it, “May no
fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once.” A plant
with no fruit is little use, in Jeremiah 8:13 God is warning his people about
not having fruit and the story in Matthew speaks to having the appearance of
fruit yet not having any.
Application: Matthew 7:20 Jesus said “Thus you will
recognize them by their fruits.” We are all known by out fruits. Whether we are
producing fruit, not producing fruit, or even producing bad fruit, we will be
know not only by the Father but by man. The fruit of man is so easily corrupted
and spoiled we need to focus on the Lord and producing His fruit.
Prayer: Lord Help us to seek you Lord so that we may produce
good fruit and spread the word though people wanting to know what is making us
different.
