Reading: 2 Chronicles 26, Isaiah 6-7, and Mark 9
Scripture: Mark 9:49-50, For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.
Thoughts: We are so often told we are to be the salt of the world, then here we are told we will be salted with fire. What are the two primary uses for salt? Flavor enhancement and preservation. With standard salt once it loses it’s saltiness it becomes useless and nothing can be done with it but when we loose our saltiness we start becoming like the world. To preserve something with salt we don’t just sprinkle it on it is dumped on, so in our lives for us to be salt to this world we need to be preserved, we need to be in the Word and in relationship with God that we have so much salty preservation that we can’t help but season those around us. When we have that preservation from God that salt permeates us so deeply that the bacteria and that Salt of God starts killing those things in our life that are not of Him and cause us to spoil and go rancid. Let us be so covered in salt that we season the world with God’s love and grace every where we go.
Prayer: Father God, your grace is sufficient for even me, you pour your salt of preservation over us we must accept it and allow it to work in our lives. Lord I thank you for all you are doing in my life the molding and refining as you salt me with fire. I ask that I become preserved and so salty that I season the world around me. May your glory shine and all glory be to you.
